Cleopatra
This is also one of my favorites. This is a painting of a little girl that was like a younger sister to me. My mom babysat her for years and years. This was her Halloween costume one year, and a photo was taken of her in our backyard. The October lighting and shadows on the window, the polyester costume, the yellow siding that my dad put onto the addition of the house... all of these are elements that I really enjoyed capturing.
Now... as for my "model"... does she know I made this into a painting years later? Probably not! I hope she doesn't find this and hate me.

I love hearing the stories that go along side these...
ReplyDeleteI think it is lovely, and that if she were to find it, she'd be honored.
ReplyDeleteWas her name Kaitlyn? And did she have a little brother? OH my goodness...memories are flooding back. Those bushes with the barking dogs behind it, the shed/garage to the left and a brick stove on the patio- right?
ReplyDeleteYep Amy, you got it! Good memory. Then again, you were at my house almost as much as they were :D I forgot about the barking dogs, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mimi, thanks Elizabeth!
Her right hand (fist?) and turned in right foot I find fascinating! That squirmy self-conscious part of a little kid getting their picture taken even though they are in a favorite get-up! You really captured a lot of expression/personality. I love it!
